And the Earth Shook

Today we experienced our first tremor! It was pretty nuts. Andrew and I were sitting out in the courtyard and suddenly I noticed that the ground was moving beneath us. It felt similar to when someone shakes the loft your bed when your in it - a back and forth motion. Except here, it was the earth that was shaking! It was incredible.

Immediately all the classes began emptying out into the courtyard. You want to get away from the glass we were told. The buildings will be okay, but the glass could break. And, they never know if a tremor will result in a big earthquake or not, so they go out and wait a while before heading back in. It was so weird. There's no need for a fire alarm or tornado announcement. You feel the ground move, so you go outside - that's your warning/tell. There's not a very easy way to predict.

It was so surreal to experience. It was one of those moments where I got to appreciate the power of the earth. I've been in some bad storms, but that seems different. This was the earth itself adjusting positions. Incredible!
